Fire Extinguisher Inspections/Service

If your fire extinguisher fails, a small fire can quickly escalate into a devastating tragedy for your building or property. Having regular fire extinguisher inspection and maintenance is essential to being prepared for any fire emergency, whether large or small.

We take care of our portable fire extinguishers by:

Annual service

For the most part, fire extinguishers are pretty durable. Usually, an annual fire extinguisher inspection won't turn up any problems. However, this is not always true – you may find that your fire extinguisher has bumps, dents, leaks, or rust that can impair its ability to keep you safe. If you notice any deficiencies on your fire extinguisher, call Coastal Fire & Safety! We can provide fire extinguisher maintenance that's as basic or as advanced as you need to make sure your fire extinguisher will keep you safe at all times.

6 YEAR Service

As fire extinguishers get older they require additional maintenance.  Six years from the manufacture date (five years for water-based extinguishers) an internal inspection and internal maintenance is required.  This includes completely discharging the extinguisher into a closed recovery system and inspecting the inside of the cylinder for rust, cracks, or other irregularities.  All of the O-rings are inspected and replaced if necessary.  Some manufacturers also require that the valve stem be replaced at this time.  The extinguisher is then refilled with the proper extinguishing agent and recharged with nitrogen gas.

HYDROTEST

If your fire extinguisher is more than 12 years old, call Coastal Fire & Safety for a fire extinguisher hydro test today! A fire extinguisher hydrostatic test, is a test the shell of your fire extinguisher to ensure it has no cracks or leaks that can cause it to malfunction when you need it most. If it turns out we need to replace your fire extinguishers, that’s no problem! We also provide fire extinguisher replacement.

Recharge

Have you recently discharged your fire extinguisher, even by just a little bit? Even if your fire extinguisher looks like it is mostly charged, you should never take chances – the difference between fully charged and mostly charged could be life and death! At Coastal Fire & Safety, we specialize in fire extinguisher recharge and can help keep your building's fire extinguishers fully pressurized and ready to protect you in the event of a fire.
